Why Women Are Buying Themselves Rings  And Which Finger to Wear Them On

11/12/2025

The Vogue Headline That Sparked a Conversation

When Vogue dropped the headline “Is it embarrassing to have a boyfriend now?” it definitely turned heads - but more importantly, it tapped into a bigger cultural shift around independence, identity, and the symbols women choose for themselves.

As traditional relationship milestones become less defining, more women are choosing jewellery - especially rings for themselves. Not as an engagement symbol. Not as a gift. But as a celebration of their own story.

In 2013, same-sex marriage was finally legalised (long overdue, might I add), marking a real shift in how we see love, relationships, and tradition. And honestly? I almost feel sorry for these women - now they need two beautiful rings! But what about the women who choose not to have a partner, or simply don’t want one? Should they miss out on the joy of sapphires and diamonds? Absolutely not. After all, they are a woman’s best friend.

Let’s face it - times have changed, and the traditional idea of jewellery needs to catch up. The days when women were expected to stay home and “keep the fort” while the man worked are long gone. Today, we’re building careers, running households, and often doing it all at once.

We all deserve the freedom to treat ourselves and do what makes us happy without judgment. And guess what? Those treats don’t have to stop at the occasional haircut or a new pair of earrings. Rings are absolutely on the menu, ladies - and you deserve every sparkle.

The Rise of the ‘Self Ring’ Trend

Self-purchased rings are becoming a powerful way to mark personal milestones such as:
  • A new chapter or career change
  • A healing or growth journey
  • A personal achievement
  • A birthday or celebration
  • Or simply wanting something beautiful without waiting for permission

This mirrors the movement behind the Vogue conversation: a gentle but clear shift from external validation to self-celebration.

At Meyn & Mor, where design is rooted in nature, texture and personal storytelling, this trend aligns beautifully with what we create: jewellery that honours you.

Which Finger Should You Wear a Ring You Bought for Yourself?

There are no real rules anymore - just meaning. But if you’re choosing a ring for yourself, here’s what each finger traditionally represents.

Thumb
A bold, intentional choice.
Symbolises: independence, willpower, personal strength.
Perfect for: statement rings, molten bands, or pieces marking new beginnings.

Index Finger
Historic finger of authority + identity.
Symbolises: ambition, leadership, confidence.
Perfect for: unique bespoke designs or meaningful heirloom repurposing.

Middle Finger
The most balanced finger with understated symbolism.
Symbolises: self-trust, personal balance, independence.
Perfect for: everyday organic rings, subtle textured designs.

Ring Finger
No longer just for engagement or wedding rings.
Symbolises: self-commitment, self-love, personal promises.
Perfect for: milestone self-gifts or meaningful personal pieces.

Pinky Finger
Full of character and expression.
Symbolises: individuality, creativity, heritage.
Perfect for: delicate pieces, stacking, or tiny diamonds flush set in organic bands.

Why This Matters for Modern Jewellery Design

This shift means women are choosing rings based on:
  • What feels meaningful
  • What celebrates their personal style
  • What reflects their identity
  • What tells their story - not someone else’s

Your jewellery becomes a love letter to yourself - not a milestone dictated by tradition.

Thinking of Creating a Ring for Yourself?

I love designing bespoke self-gift rings - organic, textured, molten pieces that honour exactly where you are in life.

If you’re thinking of marking a moment, celebrating yourself, or simply owning something beautiful, I’d love to help you design it.
Feel free to get in touch to explore shapes, stones, finger placement, or a completely one-off design made just for you.

Ashes in Metal Rings: The Most Durable & Discreet Memorial Jewellery Option

5/19/2025

When it comes to memorial jewellery, many people are searching for something that feels deeply meaningful but also practical, wearable, and discreet. If you want to keep a loved one close without it being obvious or delicate to wear, ashes-in-metal rings might be the perfect choice.

At Meyn & Mor, I handcraft each piece with care and intention, offering two types of memorial designs: a traditional ashes-in-resin inlay, and a newer, more durable method - discreetly embedding the ashes directly into the metal.
Here’s why ashes-in-metal rings are becoming the most trusted option for those looking for a lasting and subtle tribute.

What Are Ashes-in-Metal Rings?
Ashes-in-metal memorial jewellery is made by incorporating a small amount of cremation ashes directly into the metal during the making process. Rather than sitting on the surface (like a resin inlay), the ashes become a permanent part of the ring itself hidden within the band or setting, sealed and protected forever.
The result is a beautifully organic ring with no visible sign of ashes, just a strong, tactile, deeply meaningful piece you can wear every day.

Why Choose This Method?

Durability:
Unlike resin, which can be more vulnerable to damage over time, ashes-in-metal rings are built to last. They’re ideal for everyday wear and for those who want a piece that will stand the test of time.

Discretion:
Not everyone wants their memorial jewellery to be visually identifiable. This style offers a deeply personal connection that’s yours alone a secret meaning carried close, without explanation unless you choose to share it.

Natural Beauty:
Because I specialise in organic textures and coastal-inspired designs, these rings have a beautifully raw, earthy finish. They feel grounded, like a piece of nature and memory combined.

How It’s Made
Every ashes-in-metal ring is made with care and reverence. After you send a small portion of ashes (securely and respectfully), I mix them into the precious metal clay during the forming stage. Once fired, the ashes become permanently fused within the solid metal.

The process is entirely handcrafted - no two pieces are ever the same, and the final result carries the weight and warmth of both memory and craft.

Personalisation Options
Each ring can be customised with:

  • A choice of organic textures or finishes
  • Metal options like recycled silver or gold
  • Bespoke sizing or shape requests

A Meaningful, Everyday Tribute
Ashes-in-metal rings are perfect for those who want a memorial piece that can truly be worn daily through life’s mess and magic. They offer comfort, strength, and a quiet connection that stays with you, no matter where you go.
Whether you’re honouring a partner, parent, child, or beloved pet, this method provides a timeless and subtle way to keep their memory close.

Why Choose a Non-Traditional Engagement Ring?

5/19/2025

When it comes to engagement rings, many of us have grown up believing there’s only one way to do it: a sparkly white diamond on a shiny gold band. But as more couples seek to make meaningful, personal choices in how they express love, non-traditional engagement rings are becoming a powerful alternative and for good reason.
At Meyn & Mor, I create organic, textured, slow-made engagement rings for people who value individuality, storytelling, and connection. Here’s why choosing a non-traditional engagement ring might be the perfect fit for you or your partner.

1. It Tells Your Story
Your love is unique - why shouldn’t your ring be?
A non-traditional engagement ring allows you to choose something that reflects your journey, your style, and your values. Whether it’s a raw, salt-and-pepper diamond that mirrors your coastal walks, or a bespoke design infused with hidden meaning, these rings tell your story more intimately than a classic solitaire ever could.

2. Ethical and Sustainable Values
Traditional diamond mining comes with a heavy environmental and ethical cost. By choosing a non-traditional ring, you can support slow-made, small-scale makers and sustainable practices like recycled metals, ethical gemstones, or even lab-grown stones.

At Meyn & Mor, I craft each ring by hand using recycled silver or gold wherever possible, and work only with trusted, ethical suppliers for gemstones.

3. Handmade = Heartmade
There’s something incredibly special about knowing your ring was made just for you. No factories, no mass production, just honest materials, thoughtful design, and craftsmanship poured into every detail.
You’re not just buying a ring; you’re commissioning a future heirloom.

4. Freedom to Be Creative
Non-traditional doesn’t mean “out there” - it simply means not bound by rules. It could be a moody grey diamond, an ocean-toned sapphire, a fingerprint hidden in the metal, or a ring shaped to feel like it’s been weathered by nature. The options are endless and deeply personal.

5. Built to Be Worn - Every Day
I believe engagement rings should be beautiful but also practical and comfortable. That’s why I design with real life in mind, pieces you can wear while making dinner, working with your hands, or chasing toddlers around the beach (speaking from experience!).

My rings are made to last and to live with you, not sit in a box.

6. Designed With You, Not For You
I love working closely with clients to bring their vision to life. Whether you come with a fully formed idea or just a feeling, we’ll create something together that’s as special as the love it celebrates.

So, Why Go Non-Traditional?
Because it’s more than a ring. It’s a reflection of you, your values, and the life you’re building together.
And in a world full of trends, there’s something quietly powerful about choosing a piece that’s true to you.
Thinking of creating your own?
My books are open for bespoke non-traditional engagement rings, handcrafted with care, meaning, and your story at the heart.

Let’s make something unforgettable.

Why I’m Rebranding My Jewellery Business: A Fresh Chapter Rooted in Growth

3/25/2025

This year marks a turning point for my small business, what started as a creative outlet during naptimes has grown into something far bigger and more meaningful than I ever imagined. So I’m doing something that feels a little scary, but so right:
I’m rebranding.
Not because I’m changing everything, but because I’ve outgrown where I started.

The Beginning
When I first started making jewellery, I had no clear roadmap - just a love for natural textures, raw beauty, and the stillness I felt when creating. It began at the chest of drawers in my spare bedroom in Cornwall, with five tools, stolen moments between feeds, and a quiet dream to create something that felt like me.

Back then, I didn’t know it would turn into a business.
But over time, with every new design, every customer message, and every order carefully wrapped and sent off into the world, I realised I was building something much bigger than I’d planned.

So Why Rebrand?
Simply put: my work has evolved.
The jewellery I make today tells a different story than it did in the beginning.
• It’s bolder, more refined, and more me
• The textures are more intentional, the finishes more organic
• My designs have shifted into elegant, raw, and non - traditional pieces, especially engagement rings and everyday heirlooms that carry meaning

I needed a brand that reflected that growth. Something that felt aligned with where I’m going - not just where I’ve been.

What’s Changing
• A new name that feels rooted in the coastal textures and slow-living energy that inspires me
• New branding - a visual identity that speaks to the organic elegance of my pieces
• New packaging that reflects the beauty and care that goes into each order
• A clearer focus on bespoke & made-to-order jewellery
• More storytelling, more connection, and more intention behind every piece I release

What’s Staying the Same
The heart of it all:
Handmade, small-batch, raw, imperfectly beautiful jewellery.
Crafted slowly, by hand, from my studio in Cornwall.
And built with love for people who want something different, something personal.

Looking Ahead
This rebrand isn’t just a visual refresh - it’s a manifestation.
Of the dream I’ve been quietly building for years:
To grow a business that supports my family, fuels my creativity, and brings meaningful, non-traditional jewellery to people who feel connected to it.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you’ve supported me from the beginning, or you’re just discovering my work now - I’m so grateful you’re here.

Here’s to new chapters, wild textures, and jewellery that tells a story.
